3.1 Charpy Tests
The Charpy supports consist of a solid cast base body. Test-specific components, such as supports and anvils, are selected according to the specimen spectrum. The anvils, whose surface roughness and radius can have a significant effect on the test results, are fully precision CNC-manufactured and 100% measured. ZwickRoell does not offer one-piece anvils, for which dimensional accuracy cannot be consistently achieved. During assembly, the spatial position of the anvil relative to the pendulum striker can be ensured by an optional gauge.
Anvils are subject to higher wear than supports; two-piece anvils can be replaced cost-effectively and independently of other accessories. Quick-change adapter plates are used to adjust the impact point to the specimen width in the direction of impact. Adjustment to the specimen thickness (vertical direction) is achieved using appropriately sized supports, which are positioned precisely with locating pins.
Optional accessories for the supporting frame include a pivoting protective screen and alignment units, which position the specimen either at the notch or at an end face to the point of impact.
