The background for installation was that, in the event of operational disruptions or maintenance of the incineration plant, municipal waste could continue to be accepted, compacted, wrapped, and stored until the disruption was resolved. Then, all the bales would be reopened and the waste would be fed back into the normal incineration process. This worst-case scenario never occurred. The system was installed, commissioned, and never used in regular operation afterwards. Only during commissioning and initial testing were 674 bales opened over three days in 2015. The system is in excellent, immediately operational condition. Due to modifications at the incineration plant, the installation area for the bale opener was needed, so the entire line is now available for sale. Brief description of the bale opening process: Pressed bales are placed on the infeed conveyor from the side or rear using a forklift. For opening, the bales must be oriented so that the wire or twine binding runs horizontally to the conveyor; otherwise, the bales must be rotated 90° beforehand. The opening conveyor moves one bale at a time in front of the cutting unit. The grippers secure the wires or twine. The rotating knife cuts the bale lengthwise. Afterwards, the gripper returns to the home position. The opened bale is then conveyed to the discharge chute and falls onto the subsequent conveying system. Remarks: Original price of the entire plant: €296,000. Complete documentation (operating manual, CE declaration, electrical/hydraulic wiring diagrams) is available. The system has been dismantled into transportable units, stored, and is available at short notice for inspection and loading.
