The Hosokawa Alpine AFG fluidised bed jet mill with classifier is ideal for ultra-fine grinding of various dry materials, allowing precise control over the cut point or maximum particle size thanks to the integrated classifier wheel design, using the Hosokawa Alpine Turboplex ATP classifier head. This microniser can pulverise a range of coarser materials into fine powders for industries requiring micronisation, such as minerals, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and more. This mill is capable of processing hard, coarse products with a hardness of up to approximately 10 Mohs with minimal wear, achieving extreme fineness with d97 values between 4 and 100 microns maximum particle size (depending on the product) at the lowest possible energy consumption. Comminution takes place in the lower part of the mill where nozzles inject compressed gas at high pressure into the fluidised bed full of feed material, and the resulting gas jet propels the particles against each other, breaking and reducing their size. Grinding occurs at the centre of the chamber away from the mill housing, resulting in extremely low abrasion wear, making this grinder optimal for processing abrasive materials or applications that require minimal contamination in the final product. Within the same chamber, air flow transports the fine particles to the classifier wheel, where unwanted coarse grains are rejected back to the grinding zone for reprocessing, while fine particles pass through the classification area and proceed to the next step, typically filtration. A cyclone or even an air classifier is sometimes installed between the mill and the filter. Thanks to the high volume of process air required, only minimal temperature increase occurs during grinding compared with other milling and crushing technologies. The final particle size distribution can easily be adjusted by varying different parameters, such as compressed gas pressure, injector nozzle diameter or design, classifier wheel speed, air volume, fill level, or feed rate.
