The concept of the machine is extremely straightforward. The workpiece is placed into the machine. A quickly adjustable stop with pneumatic locking centers the workpiece in the machine. After actuating a foot switch, the workpiece is pneumatically clamped and automatically conveyed to the drilling unit (30 m/min). The vertical spindles drill from below, preventing chips from accumulating on the workpiece as they would in a machining center. The horizontal spindles work on two sides of the workpiece. The length of the workpiece can be of any size, as the piece is moved towards the drilling unit (X-axis). The drilling spindles can be individually or collectively programmed and move along the Y-axis. The drilling depth, as well as the horizontal drills, are controlled by the Z-axis. Once all drilling operations are completed, the workpiece is returned to the loading side or, if desired, conveyed to the unloading side. Unlike conventional machining centers where the workpiece is clamped using vacuum and the vacuum clamps have to be adjusted to the size of the workpiece, this step is completely eliminated with the 3-axis controlled point-to-point boring machine.
