LT40 is a fantastic and practical machine. It operates regardless of weather conditions. It performs excellently when handling demanding off-site jobs. It is simple and intuitive to operate. By hitching it to my vehicle like a trailer, I can drive it directly to the timber saw site. I don’t need to transport large and heavy logs to a stationary sawmill. In the past, the LT40 sawmill permanently changed the way ordinary people source timber for construction. Before the era of Wood-Mizer’s mobile sawmills, the customer had to bring logs to the sawmill, where stationary, energy-consuming, and inefficient machines were used. Once set, the cutting parameters could not be changed during sawing, and the entire log had to pass through the machine in one go. The blades used in frame sawmills produced a thick kerf, generating a large amount of waste, and the quality of the sawn material often left much to be desired.

Revolution. The breakthrough came in 1982 in the USA with the market introduction of the lightweight Wood-Mizer portable sawmill, developed by a talented engineering duo—Don Laskowski and Dan Tekulve. The debut of the LT40 sawmill in European markets at the beginning of the 1990s opened a new chapter in the sawmilling industry, enabling sawmill plants to modernise and giving ordinary people the freedom to process their own wood and pursue their dreams of running a business. The new sawmilling technology was a revelation for people at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, who had never before encountered a compact machine that could be transported anywhere, loaded with a massive log, and—using a small engine and a thin blade—produce an entire stack of lumber.
