HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
This process machines metal parts without contact and with precision. An electrically conductive electrolyte (saltwater) is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). In the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece, the ionized material is removed anodically.
The electrode is thus inversely reproduced on the metal. The targeted current pulse, oscillating tool electrode, and extremely narrow machining gap form the basis for the precision of this technology. The PECM process is an advancement of electrochemical sinking.
By using synchronized current pulses and an oscillating tool electrode, PEMTec enables a very small machining gap, allowing highly precise and economical manufacturing with no process-inherent tool wear.
Absolutely contactless and free from thermal or mechanical influences, workpieces are produced with imaging accuracy and repeatability in the low micrometer range, with surface finishes as fine as 0.03 μm.
