HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Metal components are machined contactlessly and with high precision using this technology. An electrically conductive electrolyte—saltwater—is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). The electrolyte removes the ionized material from the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece via an anodic process.

The electrode’s shape is inversely replicated onto the metal. Targeted current pulses, the oscillating tool electrode, and a very small working gap form the basis for the precision of this technology. The PECM process is an advanced development of electrochemical sinking (ECM).
By using a synchronized current pulse and an oscillating tool electrode, PEMTec achieves an extremely small machining gap. This enables highly precise and cost-efficient production—without process-related tool wear.
Workpieces are produced completely contact-free and without any thermal or mechanical influences, offering imaging accuracy and repeatability down to the lower micrometer range, and achieving surface quality of up to 0.03 μm.
