The Hosokawa Alpine Ultraplex UPZ is a universal fine impact mill, used for pulverising soft, dry materials. This micronizer is ideal for milling a variety of coarse products into fine powders across industries that require micronization, such as minerals, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, recycling, etc.

This granulator can be used for pre-cutting, breaking, and shredding different materials. It is capable of processing coarse products of up to approximately 3 Mohs hardness, achieving final particle sizes ranging from medium to fine, with coarse particle sizes d97 between 150 and 850 microns (µm) depending on the product, while minimizing energy consumption. The turbo mill can achieve this wide range of fineness levels thanks to a comprehensive selection of easily interchangeable grinding tools, such as pin discs, hammer plates, beater discs, or pendulum hammers. Some of these tools can be used in combination with stator and grinding tracks (liners) or screens, or even a combination of both, to achieve the desired final fineness. This versatility allows the same machine to process different products, from fibrous roots or spices to plastics, granular chemicals, or mineral products. Size reduction takes place inside the grinding chamber, where the rotor fitted with grinding tools impacts and propels the particles against the grinding track or sieve (if installed), reducing particle size. Process gas transports the fines from the mill discharge to the next step, typically a filter. Sometimes a cyclone is installed between the mill and the filter, or even an air classifier. Due to the necessary air volume, only a minimal temperature increase occurs during milling compared to other granulation and crushing technologies. Adjusting the particle size distribution can be achieved easily by changing various parameters such as rotor speed, type of grinding tool and liner, air volume, feed rate, etc.
