The Hosokawa Alpine Contraplex CW pin mill is equipped with two independently driven counter-rotating discs. It is used for the pulverizing of soft materials, even those with high fat or moisture content. It also enables processing of certain flexible materials or those that must retain their properties during grinding, by using cryogenic milling with liquid nitrogen (LN2) for freezing. This micronizer is ideal for comminuting a wide range of coarse products into fine powder, and finds application in industries requiring micronization such as minerals, chemicals, food processing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and recycling.

This granulator can be utilized for pre-cutting, crushing, and shredding various materials. It is capable of processing coarse products with hardness up to approximately 3 Mohs, achieving a medium to fine final fineness with coarse particle sizes d97 between 40 and 500 micrometers (µm) depending on the product, with minimal energy consumption. The turbo mill achieves this broad range of fineness thanks to its counter-rotating pin discs, enabling the required final particle size. This allows a single machine to grind diverse products, from fibrous roots or spices to plastics, granular chemicals, or mineral products. The size reduction occurs inside the grinding chamber, where the rotor equipped with pins impacts and projects the particles against the several rows of pins, reducing particle size. The process gas conveys the fine fraction out of the mill for subsequent processing, generally to a filter. Sometimes, a cyclone is installed between the mill and the filter, or even an air classifier. Thanks to the required air volume, only minimal temperature increase is to be expected during grinding compared to other granulation and crushing technologies. Final particle size distribution can be easily adjusted by modifying parameters such as the grinding disc speed, pin type, air volume, feed rate, etc.
