BV tests are designed for the detection of biological substances, including botulinum neurotoxins A, B, E, and F, staphylococcal enterotoxins A and B, ricin, and anthrax spores.

BV tests utilize a sandwich immunoassay format. An antibody specific to the target pathogen is immobilized onto microparticles.

The other antibody is labeled with BioVeris' BV-TAG™ label. The sample is mixed with these reagents.

If the specific target pathogen is present in the sample, both antibodies bind to it, effectively linking the microparticles, the organism, and the BV-TAG marker together.

The reaction mixture is then transported with an assay buffer into a flow cell containing an electrode that stimulates the bound BV-TAG label to emit light.

Only BV tests offer such unprecedented sensitivity and accuracy.
