Cooling Capacity

An open evaporative cooling tower does not have a fixed, single kW rating, as actual performance fully depends on thermodynamic ambient conditions and system temperatures.

This model is designed for maximum water flow rates of up to 198 liters per second.

Under typical industrial or HVAC standard conditions, the nominal cooling capacity of this model ranges between approx. 1,200 kW and 2,100 kW.

Why Does the Cooling Capacity Vary?

Wet-bulb temperature (outside air): The cooler and drier the ambient air, the more water can evaporate and the higher the cooling capacity.
Water temperatures: Performance varies greatly depending on incoming hot water temperature (e.g., 35°C) and outgoing cold water temperature (e.g., 29°C).
Airflow volume: According to BAC technical specifications, the S15E 1018-10 LE moves 60.0 m³/s of air using three integrated 11.0 kW fan motors.
If the airflow is reduced by a frequency converter (e.g., at night or during winter operation), cooling performance decreases accordingly.
Approach: This is the key thermodynamic limitation, describing the difference between the desired cold water temperature and the physical wet bulb temperature. The closer the cold water approaches the wet bulb (smaller approach), the less kW performance the tower can achieve.
