Intended use: Suitable for imposition and processing of short runs and single copy books (“books of one”) with varying sizes, page counts, and covers.

Equipment / additional information:

Line configuration:
1. Roll feed: unwind unit, merger, Dupla cutter, and book assembly station for producing book blocks with 2-up printing.
2. Sheet feeder: a variable number of loose sheets can be inserted into the book block as inserts. The sheets must have the same dimensions and print run as the corresponding book block.
3. Feed to binding machine: station for manual feeding of pre-manufactured book blocks, transport with reading station, book turner module, and loading robot at the binding machine.

4. Variable binding machine for producing books with softcover covers. The binding machine applies PUR glue to the book spine and hot-melt glue to the book edges.
5. Softcover casing-in machine, configured with sheet cover feeder: pre-printed cover sheets are fed in, front-trimmed, side-trimmed, and creased to the correct size to match the thickness of the corresponding book block.
6. Cooling tower: books are transported from the binding machine through the cooling tower to the three-knife trimmer.
7. Variable three-knife trimmer, suitable for trimming books with variable dimensions and covers in three axes.

The entire process is controlled via 2D data matrix codes. The code provides the release for the following automatic adjustments and workflow management:
• Book dimension and insert information (quantity and sequence)
• Setup of the binding machine (spine position, thickness, and length)
• Cover preparation: softcover → creasing, trimming, edge trimming
• Correct matching of book block and cover
• Three-knife trimmer (knife positioning is automatically set to book dimensions)
