Plunge Rolling: The thread rolling tools, with the same pitch as the workpiece, form the thread by penetrating the workpiece up to nominal diameter. The thread length can be at most as long as the thread rolling tools are wide.

Through-feed Rolling: Used when the thread length is greater than the width of the thread rolling tool. Through-feed tools have three zones—the lead-in, the calibration section, and the lead-out. Grooving rolls have no pitch and are swiveled according to the thread angle of the profile to be rolled.

Lead Rolls: These differ from grooving rolls by having a pitch in the profile. The sum of the pitch angle and swivel angle results in the pitch angle on the workpiece.
