Operating principle:
The Opal 460 is a fully hydraulic, water-cooled hot mounting press designed for embedding metallographic samples.
During the hot mounting process, the specimen is embedded in the press using thermosetting granulate under the application of temperature and pressure.
Benefits of this method include the high hardness of the mounting materials (e.g., glass fibre reinforced) and excellent edge retention.
Hot mounting media are available based on epoxy resin, acrylic resin, phenolic resin, or graphite resin.
Main application:
Encapsulation of samples for improved specimen preparation for further metallographic analysis.
